Located with elevated South-west facing slopes overlooking Table Bay, the vineyards of the Bottelary hills outside Stellenbosch in South Africa are ideally situated for producing the finest quality wines. Friesland Family vineyards, a boutique 35-hectare farm, is also a province in the northern part of the Netherlands and hence honours the heritage of the first Steenkamps settling in the Cape in the late 1600’s.Husband and wife team De Bruyn and Marilise Steenkamp are the owners of Friesland wines. Cape Wine Master De Bruyn grew up as 4th generation on the Steenkamp family land and blended the wines sourced from the best Stellenbosch vineyards. The range centres around a flagship M-Klas Cabernet Sauvignon, a reserve tier comprising the Broer & Suster (“Brother & Sister”) Shiraz-Grenache, lightly wooded Berg & See (“Mountain & Sea”) Chenin Blanc and then also a Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon, bush vine Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are well decorated and include 4- and 4.5-star Platter awards and Double Gold and Gold awards from Gilbert & Gaillard.
