Medici Ermete

Medici Ermete history starts in 1890, with Remigio Medici, a restaurant owner and businessman. The founder used to run 3 taverns along the famous Via Emilia, the main road with a super important commercial value. In this scenario, he starts to produce his own wine to sell to his customers. In the following years Ermete, his son, converted the business from the taverns into a winery. With the 3° generation of Medici (composed of Giorgio and Valter Medici), in the 1960’s, Lambrusco starts to be exported in Germany, Britain and USA. In the 1970’s Lambrusco was exported a lot and experienced a big-boom in the USA as it was considered a cool wine. During this period sweet Lambrusco starts to become the norm and the quality of it starts to decline badly among big producers. In 1987 the market breaks. In this context the 4° generation of Medici (composed of Alberto, our CEO, Pierluigi and Alessandra) starts to run the first steps into the winery. They choose quality over quantity. They revolutionize the production starting from the vineyard to have a much better control of all the production chain. Easily reachable from Venice, Florence and Milan, Emilia-Romagna lies in the heart of northern Italy. Medici Ermete is located right in the centre of this wonderful territory: we are in Reggio Emilia, the homeland of Lambrusco! Among other things, the Tricolore, the Italian flag, was born in 1797 right here in Reggio Emilia. Lambrusco has been here, in Emilia, for such a long time that the first traces date back to antiquity. It is an indigenous grape variety, which means that it was born and developed in a specific area.
