Kudos is Talamonti’s flagship red, a Rosso Abruzzo DOC made from 80% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and 20% Merlot. The grapes are hand-harvested separately and undergo 15–22 days of maceration before each variety is aged individually for 12 months in 300-litre French oak barriques. They are then blended and returned to oak for another 12 months, followed by 12 months of bottle ageing.
It is a limited-production wine of only around 13,000 bottles, with intense dark fruit aromas of cherry, blueberry and currant, complemented by elegant notes of coffee, vanilla and spice. The palate is concentrated and powerful, yet polished, with supple tannins and a long, complex finish. Talamonti recommends it with rack of lamb, braised meats and game, and notes that it can age well for up to 10 years.
The name Kudos, from Greek, meaning glory, honour or praise, was chosen to highlight the wine as the estate’s pinnacle blend and to acknowledge the influence of Greek culture on European wine history.
